Genre conventions of Hip Hop music videos

Image
The genre of my music video is that of Hip Hop/rap, so as a result I am going to study videos from other artists in a similar genre. My music video itself is also that of experimental so it will feature both artist performance and narrative. Eminem-Cleaning out my closet Joyner Lucas-ADHD  Logic-1-800-273-8255 All these music videos in the same genre as each other both convey a narrative through both their lyrics and the visuals of the performance of either the actors or the actual artist or both. A typical convention that can be seen in each of these videos is that of close ups of the protagonist of the performance looking distressed and being alone to show how in their world they believe they are the only ones going through this which could be used to imply the idea that the world is out to judge them and get at them, as a result of this i will be sticking to this convention.

Mood board for my music video

Image
This is a mood board that I have created in order to help establish the mood and atmosphere of the overall narrative and performance of my music video. This features majority of themes and scenes that will be present in the music video itself and demonstrates a clear atmosphere of the overall performance.

My target audience

Image
Here is a picture that demonstrates the type of stereotypes that can be found in the Alternative crowd, i believe this could be a good choice for a target audience for my music video as they tend to go away from the mainstream and conforming to normality.

Music video prototype

This prototype is a brief overview of the narrative that will be featured in the actual music video when it comes to the actual production of the music video itself. This does not necessarily feature every shot that will be present in the video itself it instead aims to highlight the main points of the music and messages of the song itself as well as the shots that should follow.

Shoot scheldue for music video

Image
These are examples of shoot schedules for different scenes that will feature in my music video, which in turn help bring some order to the shoot of the day and help to make sure that the operations run smoothly. The actual shooting of the music video will begin with a shot of the protagonist and his mates walking home together and one of them asking if he is alright to which he will reply he is fine. We then cut to a shot of the protagonist on his bed spliced in with a view title cards, he then begins to rap about what he is writing on his suicide note which isn't revealed until it's too late. In between rapping in his room and to himself in the mirror there will be scenes where he is being bullied, treated differently for trying to speak about how he is feeling, and a hinted abusive home life. The video then shows the protagonist writing the note and then ultimately pulling the trigger on his life, the protagonist then becomes almost like a narrator as he sings the chorus, t

Storyboard for the music video

Image
These are a story board of key scenes that should feature in the narrative of my music video, for example when the protagonist "shoots" himself which is a pivotal turning point within the narrative. This is to give me a rough idea of what I am going to include in terms of the narrative for my music video.

Script for promotional videos and videos

These are scripts to promotional videos that would feature on a social media account of the artist, this is because I would like to make the artist to appear more real and connect with his audience like an actual artist would if they were trying to promote a new song. Video 1:   "Hey guys, I just finished working on the final touches on the new music video for my latest single, "I'm sorry", with my boy, Morpheus, the grind never stops Boys. Peace" Video 2:  "What's going on guys, I'm here on the set of a cheeky photo shoot, if ya know ya know, its going to be a good one I cant wait for you guys to see what we've been working on, Its going to be a good one, stay on this page to get the latest, and I'll let you know when it drops. Peace." Video 3:  "I just want to take the time to thank you guys for everything you have done supporting me throughout my career. Big up my day ones, who've been around since my first single and to all

My artist background

NEO was raised on the mean streets of Kettering and started writing his lyrics at the age of 16. He has always been a fan of Hip Hop and rap, his love for these genres came when he began listening to the N.W.A and The notorious B.I.G and method man. He was impressed by how these artist conveyed deeper meaning with their lyrics and this in turn inspired him to begin to create meaning and convey how he felt to his audience. NEO has stayed loyal to one of his day ones, his DJ, who he has been working with since before his career even took off, who goes by the name Morpheus. The duo have been tearing up the scene ever since, producing track after track in pursuit of their dream of world liberation via their beats and their lyrics. NEO has always had a passion for representing issues close to his heart and as a result and those he believes go un-noticed, due to this he states that writing his lyrics and performing them to his fans is like a release of all the anger and passion he had deep

CD initial design

This is an initial concept for a design for an album cover for my artist, however the picture used might instead have the artist facing forward wearing maybe either a suit or traditional "street" wear.

Warner music artist

Image
Warner Music Artist analysis of website Joyner Lucas is a Warner music artist who i am going to study in order to effectively create a music video that fits within the style of the Warner music company which co-insides with the brief that we have been given. When you enter Joyner's website you are greeted by a picture of his son with the same neck tattoos as himself next to the title of his new albums. Under this is a list of his hit songs which help to show his popularity and recognition of his works, this also in turn helps to promote his other songs to his audience in order to boost the sales and the amount of listeners. The website also features his latest song this is in order to promote it to his audience. The websites colour design is simplistic and uses bright block colours, this could be to demonstrate the fact that his songs are of a hip hop nature. The website also features a section for his merch, such as the t-shirts and hoodies which can be seen in this screen shot. T

Potential song choice and analysis

Joyner Lucas-"I'm sorry" Go ahead and call me a coward and say I'm not strong Because I'm not like you Go ahead and call me crazy cause I live in a maze Tell me how about you? I think I live in my head, sometimes I think that I'm dead I hide behind my youth No, I been losing my mind and I'm a little behind Step inside my shoes Cause I've never been happy with myself And I don't need no one feeling bad for me Trying to offer me pity and throw jabs at me Wanna give me advice and then laugh at me Behind closed doors Just close the door, let me be by myself Just me and myself I'm tired of living, I cry, I hear it's easy to die I wanna see for myself And I know that sounds crazy to everyone else But I'm depressed as fuck Stressed as fuck Ain't no medicine that could cure what's the test as drugs I mean, I need extra love And that ain't even enough 'Said that ain't even enough And where the fuck is God? (God, god) Damn, m

Analysis of Black by Dave

Image
Black by Dave Dave was born David Orobosa Omoregie on the 5th of June in 1998 in England to Edo immigrant parents.  The music video itself is a narrative\experimental video as it shows a variety of different scenes where they show different scenarios which when put together tell an overall narrative to the story. The video was released in February of 2019 around the time of major black lives matter movements, the video then became all the more prominent with the murder of George Floyd. The video provides an insight into how it feels like to be black in a modern world society which can be inferred by the lyrics for example, "The blacker the berry the sweeter the juice, a kid dies, the blacker the killer the sweeter the news", this clearly highlights the discrimination that black people face from the media and how they are portrayed within such platforms. The opening title is a simplistic design of which i would like to try and replicate within my own music video. The camerawor

My survey

Image
The responses The responses show me that people are aware of my chosen theme of male suicide and depression which means i am addressing an issue that people are aware of. By it also being in the top three known issues makes a prominent issue that needs to be addressed.  This shows me that those who have responded to my survey that the majority of participants listen to rap and or hip hop, which coincidentally links to the genres of my potential song of "I'm sorry" by Joyner Lucas which could be classed in either category. This is useful knowledge for me as part of producing a music video is creating a product that entertains a customer and in turn will make them subconsciously acknowledge the message. This therefore has solidified my song choice in my mind. From the data i have received from the survey that the majority of people took a non-political stance whether that be to lack of knowledge or a lack of care for the political space. In terms of the responses to what th
